About the UK PAYE Tax Refund Calculator

A PAYE tax refund, sometimes called a tax rebate, is Income Tax you may have overpaid through your wages. This calculator estimates tax due on your employment income for 2026/27, then compares it with the Income Tax already deducted.

People often overpay after using an emergency tax code, changing jobs, working only part of the year, or having the wrong tax code on a payslip. If you paid less than the estimate, you may instead have an underpayment to settle with HMRC.

After the tax year, HMRC may send a P800 if its records show too much or too little tax was paid. An actual refund is handled by HMRC, not by this website. Check how to claim a tax refund on GOV.UK and HMRC tax overpayments and underpayments guidance.

This is an estimate for PAYE employment income in England, Wales and Northern Ireland only. It does not cover Self Assessment, Scottish Income Tax, student loan deductions, or complex benefits. It is not a guaranteed HMRC refund.
